GETTING STARTED WITH LINUX - PART 1

WHAT IS LINUX?

Linux is free open source operating system developed by Linus Torvalds with the help of hundreds of programmers around the world.

WHY USE LINUX?

There are hundreds of reason why to use Linux. Some of them are
  • Linux is an open source operating system, meaning you can use it for free
  • Free from viruses
  • Your computer won’t get slower day by day like it happens in Windows
  • Some Linux  distributions come with auto defragmentation so that you don't have to defrag the hard disk to improve performance.

GETTING STARTED

First step in getting into the world of Linux would be to install an Linux operation system in your computer. There are hundreds of Linux distributions available on the internet, most famous of them being fedora, Ubuntu, openSUSE, Debian, Linux mint. but for an absolute beginner the best Linux distribution is Ubuntu.

Installing Ubuntu inside Windows ( Using Wubi ):

Many are afraid to install Linux fearing about loss of data when installing new operating system,  in the video below I've showed how to install the Ubuntu operating system within windows easily like an software not causing any loss of data.

Using virtual machine ( vmware / virtual box) :

Another way of using Ubuntu is in virtual machine. Virtual machines allow you to run other operating systems within your current operating system. I prefer using Virtual box software as a virtual machine. There are many other virtual machines such as Vmware. I hope the video below will help you with Ubuntu installation in Virtual box and Vmware.

Installing on a hard disk partition:

If you want to install Ubuntu on a separate hard disk partition the following video will help you. Make sure that the partition you want to install is empty or doesn't contain any required data.

Thats all for this post! If you enjoyed this post, I’d be very grateful if you’d help it spread by emailing it to a friend, or sharing it on Twitter or Facebook. Thank you!
